ICAR, Tripura Centre Celebrated ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’
The ICAR, Tripura Centre celebrated “Swachhta Pakhwada” from 16-31 December 2019 with the objective of bringing the practices of cleanliness at the work place and surroundings. Swachhta pledge taking ceremony was observed in the office. The pledge was administered by Dr. B. Das, Pr. Scientist (Horticulture) and Joint Director I/C. Then a cleanliness and sanitation drive was conducted in the ICAR-adopted village Brahmanpuskurini (West Tripura), where Swachhta pledge administrated to villagers also. Gram Panchayat members have assisted in organizing this program. The importance of child education in Swachha Bharat Abhiyan was pronounced in this campaign. A cleanliness drive was conducted at nearby Lembucherra market. The shopkeepers and retailers were urged for systematic waste disposal. To motivate the farmers, a Kisan Diwas was also organized under the theme of ‘Waste to Wealth’ where 85 farmers were attended. Mrs. Antara Sarkar Deb, Hon’ble Shabhadipati, Mr. Haridulal Acharjee, Hon’ble Sahakari Shabhadipati, Paschim Tripura has graced the occasion. An exhibition, felicitation of Swachhata karmi, technical session on waste management, Farmers-Scientist interaction, field visit, and distribution of quality- seed and planting materials were also organized. To foster healthy participation, a drawing competition was organized in Rabikumar HS School, Lembucherra under the theme of “Swatchhta hi seva” and burgeoning issues of waste and plastics were discussed. Further participatory group discussions were organized on compost making, organic farming and safe waste disposal through lectures, and documentary movies. The pakhwada was concluded with the urge of bringing the message of cleanliness at the work place and surroundings for clean and green India.
